Innsbruck, the capital of the Tirol province, is a beautiful university town in the Inn Valley. We are surrounded by majestic mountains and lush forests and have the beautiful Inn River running through the city. With over 135,000 inhabitants, Innsbruck has all the trappings of a big city, and yet it still maintains a small town feel. Sitting in the midst of the Alps, Innsbruck has hosted three Winter Olympics Games and still attracts sports enthusiasts year-round with its numerous hiking, mountain biking, climbing, skiing, and snowboarding routes.
Despite having a cross on every mountain peak and a church at the center of every village, Austrians have very much lost true faith in Jesus Christ to religious tradition. Less than 1 in 200 Austrians profess a faith in Jesus Christ & his finished work alone! Though traditionally a catholic country, probably less than 1 in 4 people has ever even heard the Gospel once in their lifetime! Alcoholism, superstition & occultism, bullying, depression & suicide are very “visible” effects of the spiritual poverty of this otherwise rich country. “Mobilizing People for Jesus in Austria” is the mission of the Innsbruck Team. This means we are working to help Austrians not only to find Jesus, but also to find out how He is calling them to join in His work. A large part of this mission is helping to call out young Christian leaders and equip, train, and coach them as they begin serving the King. This is our team’s main part of furthering our organization's mission of “Multiplying Transformational Churches Among All People”.
Our vision is to see Austrians, especially youth & young adults become “oaks of righteousness… displaying the Lord’s splendor” who will “rebuild…renew… and restore” the spiritually ruined and devastated country of Austria (see Isaiah 61:1-4). The team is heavily involved in a youth ministry center, which features programs such as after-school tutoring and an evening youth hang-out times. We also partner with a coalition of 8 churches that work together to meet needs around the city. This initiative works in diverse areas such as the youth, homeless ministry, prison ministry, ministry among prostitutes, and refugee ministry. Additionally, we partner with the Austrian Evangelical Free Church to put on outreach English camps every summer. This partnership has remained strong for more than 25 years! We’re seeking bold, faith-filled persons, couples, or families to build relationships and help local churches lay the groundwork for gospel initiatives among the totally-unreached Turkish population here in Innsbruck/Tirol through youth and family ministry.
