Refugee Kids Program Assistant

GoTEN’s Kids Ministry provides a nurturing environment for children as their parents attend English or Sewing classes. As parents dive into their learning, their children are brought together in a space designed specifically for them. This not only ensures parents can concentrate fully on their courses but also creates an avenue for kids to enhance their language abilities and social skills. This vital ministry is bolstered by the dedication of volunteers from local churches, whose assistance is invaluable in ensuring the program's smooth operation, exclusively during the English and Sewing classes. The room is resourcefully equipped with tools and materials that promote developmental growth. Much like the kids ministry at your church, all volunteers are background checked and go through a child safety training.

The Kids Ministry Assistant will work alongside our Kids Ministry Leader to prepare lessons for classes, connect with refugee families upon check-in and check-out of kids, build connections with refugee families and visit the refugee homes of the families. The Kids Ministry Leader will mentor the Kids Ministry Assistant and when ready, open new classes for refugee kids. Once the new classes are opened, the Kids Ministry Assistant will be responsible for specific classes, preparing lessons, welcoming refugees, and leading volunteers.

When the Kids Ministry Assistant is not overseeing kid’s classes, they will visit homes of refugees bringing volunteers along to share Bible stories and invite unreached refugees into discipleship relationships. Since 1980, Arizona has resettled almost 90,000 refugees of which the majority have come from unreached people groups (People groups with 2% or less of a Christian presence). Our missionary teams build relationships with refugee neighbors who belong to unreached people groups from around the world. We demonstrate God’s love by empowering refugees through language acquisition, job skills, and kids minsitry while also meeting their spiritual and physical needs. We seek ways to share the Truth of God’s Word by telling stories of Jesus whenever we have the opportunity. The ultimate goal is to start Gospel story groups that birth churches in homes.

In short, a Kids Ministry Assistant is a missionary that connects with refugee families through the kid’s ministry making consistent weekly home visits, helping to meet physical needs, and enter into disciple making relationships. The environment is incredibly diverse and cross-cultural. Expect to meet Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and non-religious people from the corners of the world. The people groups we focus on are from Iraq, Syria, Myanmar, Congo, Sudan, Somalia, Nepal, and Afghanistan. You will be coached by GoTEN missionaries on a weekly basis and will receive ongoing training designed to give missionaries new tools, accountability, practice, encouragement, and community.

Skills:

Our mission is to facilitate discipleship relationships among unreached refugees in the USA. If you love kids, like to meet new people and want to engage people from another culture, this is a great opportunity to experience the true missionary life. Due to the diverse nature of languages, someone wanting to use their language skills or begin learning Arabic, Burmese, Somali, or Rohingya would be great but not required. Our program is designed to equip and train missionaries to reach out to Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu people groups. The most essential quality is communication skills along with a calling to make disciples among unreached people. It’s also helpful to have a flexible personality and an openness to learn how to build cross-cultural relationships.
