ESL Teacher in Medical University

Although the political and social situation strictly prohibits “proselytization,” the desire of the people and government of this communist nation to engage with the global community has opened doors for skilled professionals from the outside to join them in building their nation. The charming culture of Laos is only surpassed by the gentle souls of the people who are hungry to learn and to serve their people through quality healthcare.

For more than 14 years, our organization's medical professionals and English teachers have engaged the medical community in Laos by teaching in government hospitals and at the only allied health professions university in the country. Because of the strong foundation of trust our organization has with key officials and the record of our service, we have opportunities to teach English to medical students, and to university faculty and staff as well. English is fast becoming a necessity for involvement in continuing education opportunities in the ASEAN region and will soon become a requirement for graduation from the medical school.

Our team’s English teachers come alongside the university’s local English teachers to equip them in developing curricula for their teaching program and to teach with them in large classrooms of 17 to 22-year-old medical students. Each year more than 100 new medical students who enter the university choose English as their foreign language. Our teachers have opportunities to assist university faculty and staff with English as well. Our teachers are free and encouraged to engage socially outside of class, building foundations of trust upon which the truth of the gospel of Jesus can be naturally and relevantly communicated. Our staff in this position will be able to step into this exciting opportunity for reaching the unreached through general and medical English education.
