English Language Institute Teacher

Our country is one of the most important countries in the Horn of Africa. Although it is a small country compared to its neighbors, its influence and diversity allows for whatever happens in the nation to impact entire regions. This tiny speck of a country packs a big punch. What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in unusual landscape, especially geological features. Although this region is one of the hottest, most barren areas of the world, few countries offer such unusual landscapes – salt lakes, extinct volcanoes, sunken plains, limestone chimneys, basaltic plateaus and majestic canyons.

This nation, made up mostly of Somali (60%) and the Afar (35%) peoples, is exclusively Muslim. In fact, these local ethnic groups were among the first Africans to accept Islam. Our team was the first mission organization to work in the country, starting in the early 1950s. We seek to create self-reproducing, dynamic networks of Jesus-centered fellowships. Due to the geographical location, as well as its geopolitical importance, we believe that the work that goes on in this country can be exported into further unreached areas of the Horn of Africa. Because of our longevity in the country, we have established an honorable reputation in the community, and we can use this platform to share the love of Christ to all who will listen.

Goers will join a dynamic team that is starting to see fruit after many years of patient labor. The team runs an English language institute that has a very strong positive reputation in the country and local government. The institute’s classes and services have been a powerful practical demonstration of the love of Jesus and have opened doors of influence. Goers will teach English at various proficiency levels and build appropriate relationships with students, taking opportunities to share life and the gospel.

We are looking for applicants who are willing to lay down preconceived notions of success and are willing to be known as faithful, enduring workers of Christ. To live and work here is not easy, and it takes time to understand the different societies in the nation, but we know that whenever God's Word leaves, it never returns empty. We hope for those who have never heard the truth of the Gospel before, that they will have their lives transformed and partner with us to transform the whole region.

Skills:

TEFL qualification is needed to work with us. But most of all we need adaptable people with a learning attitude, who humbly love Muslims and can demonstrate patience and perseverance.
