Are you an Artist? Do you have a passion for empowering artists? Do you love to teach? Do you recognize the role art plays in community transformation?
Athens, Greece is at a crossroads between Asia and Europe. Greece is a stepping stone for many from the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa hoping to find asylum in western Europe. The refugee community in Athens has experienced being oppressed and uprooted by conflict, while often facing an uncertain future. As a result, the Arts have often been suppressed. Yet art is something many in our community have carried with them on their journey or have a desire to rediscover. They long for their voice to be heard, to find ways to peace, to safeguard and express beauty, and to express lament.
We are passionate about seeing the lives of refugees and marginalized community members transformed through the ways of Jesus, walking alongside them on their journey. We work towards community transformation by creating safe spaces for relationships, discipleship and empowerment. Creating art together helps to create a place where community members can learn to feel safe, express themselves and grow in trust. We share life together, talk about deeper questions and discover more of our God-given identity as creatures made to create alongside God, while also thinking about what it looks like to work towards God’s vision of a restored and reconciled community.
You can be a part of bringing people together by joining our creative community with your skills in the arts, sharing your voice and knowledge, inspiring and empowering others to do the same, and by being a witness to the expression and stories of the community.
We are looking for someone who can help teach different art forms to students of all skill levels, can lead various creative projects, is open and available to invest in deeper relationships and is excited to use art to build bridges in the wider community and help bring people together.
Experience in any one or more of a variety of arts/media/creative expression (including visual arts, music, or dance) is essential.
Training in community art or art therapy would be helpful, but not required.
A willingness to serve, adapt, learn and be flexible with changing schedules.
A willingness to put relationships and people ahead of tasks.
Compassion and empathy.
A willingness to live, work and learn in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
