Just a short drive from Bulgaria’s Balkan Mountains you will find the little village of Tulovo. Made up of about 1,300 people, the population is evenly split between ethnic Bulgarians and Roma peoples. About 85% of ethnic Bulgarians are culturally and nominally Bulgarian Orthodox, rarely stepping inside a church. Protestants, on the other hand, make up just over one percent of the population. The need is great for people to show a practical faith in Jesus Christ, and then to invite others to follow Him.
We seek to raise up mature Christ-followers, both Roma and ethnic Bulgarian, who recognize and step into their God-given calling to influence and transform Tulovo. Our greatest dream is to see growing understanding, and ultimately reconciliation, between the estranged Roma and ethnic Bulgarian populations.
A Children’s Ministry Coordinator would help us focus our work with the children of Tulovo and organize the ministries that serve them. These ministries currently include times of games and Bible learning, practical activities, service, and school/homework help. With several hundred children to reach, we long to have someone dedicated to and focused on them, helping organize and expand the ministry in a way that will meet the needs of these precious ones.
A Goer in this role would help us expand children’s ministry to reach both Roma and ethnic Bulgarian children. The Goer would identify and meet needs of Tulovo children through targeted surveys, find, mobilize, and train passionate local citizens to join in children’s work, and further develop the growing partnership we have with the local school. This role also includes outreach, relationship building, and training for parents and caregivers/guardians, a crucial area we are beginning to develop.
Preference for a degree or minor related to children - examples include child psychology, elementary education
Experience in working with children aged 5-12 (camps, Sunday school, or related settings) desired
Demonstrated gift and ability for reaching and teaching children
Willingness to participate in ongoing, children’s ministry training both within and outside of our team
Skills in leadership and coordination, as this role will involve training and overseeing others
