Ecuador is a beautiful and diverse country in the northwestern part of South America along the Andes Mountains. It is a democratic republic and a developing country dependent on its commodities such as petroleum and agricultural products. Spanish is the official language and is spoken by the majority of the population, though 13 Amerindian languages are also spoken, including Quichua and Shuar.
Poverty, oppression and lack of education continue to be significant issues in this third world country. Children particularly are vulnerable to a variety of social and spiritual risks. Youth World has been working in the Quito region of Ecuador since 1994 to impact Latin America and the world by reaching young people with the life-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Youth World does this through its nine ministries, ranging from a skate church to reach young skaters for Christ, to a ministry providing quality training for youth leaders, to services for young men and women coming out of vulnerable situations such as domestic violence, and human trafficking. Youth World believes in a holistic model of ministry based on how we see Jesus do ministry in the Bible. Therefore, we seek to address physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs. However, we need qualified, eager healthcare professionals (or future healthcare professionals) to help the ministries address the health needs in their communities.
Your role would be to assist the Coordinator of Health Initiatives as they support each ministry individually. You could be preparing medical kits, creating health plans for ministry participants, acting as the medical professional supervising weekend retreats, assisting visiting teams with medical clinics, or a variety of other tasks as needed. Willingness to be flexible and serve wherever needed is vital in this role.
