Anti-Trafficking Worker

While human trafficking is the third largest criminal industry in the world (behind weapons and drug trafficking), it is the world’s fastest growing criminal industry. In fact, back in December 18, 2013, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution recognizing that ‘despite sustained measures taken at the international, national, and regional levels, trafficking in persons remains one of the grave challenges facing the international community, which also impairs the enjoyment of human rights and needs a more concerted collective and comprehensive international response.’

With Greece being situated at the crossroads between the former Soviet bloc countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, the port city of Athens has become a hotbed of human trafficking, and is a primary gateway into the rest of Europe. The existing legal framework of Greece also lends itself to being a haven for traffickers, as the legalization of prostitution aids in this illicit activity falling under the radar.

Goers will have the opportunity to partner with a local Greek ministry as they engage in weekly outreaches to the brothel districts and streets of Athens, breaking the isolation of women who have been marginalized and oppressed, and sharing the love of God in ways that have the potential to bring them into new life. Whether it’s sharing a coffee or tea with women in our drop-in center, accompanying women to doctor appointments, facilitating one of our various workshops aimed at teaching ongoing life skills, developing prevention and awareness campaigns, or participating in our weekly outreaches, you’ll have a role in what God is doing to bring liberation and justice to His people in real and tangible ways.
