Who we look for in GoCorps volunteers
Some of the places where GoCorps volunteers are being sent are some of the poorest cities and countries in the whole world. Many of the places where you might serve are in places where there is governmental restrictions on many of the freedoms of local life. All of the places are beyond the current reach of the gospel.
Given the nature of GoCorps placements, we are looking for followers of Jesus Christ that are:
- Followers of Christ- We are looking for volunteers who have a growing walk with Christ and maintain a lifestyle of personal holiness. Since the ultimate goal of the GoCorps two year overseas placements is to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ in a culturally relevant way, our volunteers must be living the life that they are proclaiming.
- Full of Faith - GoCorps volunteers work in the midst of some of the most extreme poverty and fighting severe injustices. We are looking for volunteers who are prayerful and hopeful and who believe God's promises of hope, healing and justice enough that they are are willing to persevere and fight for them.
- Strong Character - Given the importance of each of the GoCorps projects, we are looking for volunteers that are dependable, willing to assume responsibility and those that are able to both work in a team and work independently when necessary.
- Learners - There will be lots of new, different and unexpected things to encounter overseas, so one of the most important attributes that will lead to success is to maintain a teachable posture, to be flexible, and be someone who is able to adapt to stressful and demanding circumstances.
- Good Communicators - All of the GoCorps tracks of service involve communicating the gospel and developing relationships. Therefore, those who have a genuine care for others and that are able to relate, communicate and work well with others will find the greatest effectiveness overseas.
