Don't Pray about the Great Commission
We don't believe that there is a special calling to missions. We simply don't think that there is a calling necessary to believers beyond what is found in God's word. God's heart for the world and for the lost, the least and the last is evident from Genesis to Revelation. Therefore, we at GoCorps don't believe that believers need a secondary calling to volunteer to go and give two years to bring the gospel to the least reached. God's already called us through Scripture. Why do we wait for lightning or some other miraculous sign? All that's needed is for his followers to volunteer!
God clearly asks (commands!) his believers to take the gospel to the world in Matthew 28 when he said 'Go into the whole world and make disciples of all nations' (v. 19-20). But beyond that, there are over 1600 verses in the Bible in which he expresses his love for all nations and his desire those those that know him to bring the good news to those who do not.
That is why we at GoCorps say 'don't pray about the Great Commision!' When asked if they are willing to go overseas for the sake of the gospel, most Christians say they will pray about. Why is it the only command in scripture that we feel compelled to commit to special prayer? We don't read God's commands of 'do not murder' or 'honor your father and mother' and feel that we should pray about whether those commands are meant for us!
So, of course we want you to pray about your involvement in the Great Commission and your involvement in the GoCorps. But, we hope that you'll pray by simply asking 'What is God's will?' for our world, and then asking him where you fit in his great global dream to see all people's come to relationship with him.
